In a October 2019 the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is part of the National Institutes of Health, announced the publication of current work toward an improved Lyme disease test in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. Authors of this research report improved sensitivity in diagnosing early cases of Lyme disease compared to existing tests when using a set of several new biomarkers for Lyme disease. Their results demonstrated positive identification of antibodies within the first 2-6 weeks of infection.
